Staff and students at St David’s High School in Saltney are celebrating record breaking examination results this year.

At GCSE, 75% of students achieved the Welsh Level 2 threshold of five GCSE passes at grades A* – C. This places us well above the Flintshire and all Wales average score.

For the fifth consecutive year, we have beaten our previous best at GCSE and exceeded the challenging targets agreed with the local authority. You don't achieve these sort of results by chance - it's down to effort, determination and commitment. Everyone has worked hard and done their best and the successes are well deserved.

Students of all abilities have approached their GCSE examinations with considerable energy and determination, and teaching staff have provided excellent support and guidance. The support of parents has been outstanding.

These excellent results will enable most of our students to proceed to the next stage of education, training or employment as planned. We are pleased that so many students will be staying with us in the sixth form to study at AS and then A level.

After an outstanding inspection report in April and confirmation that we are in the top 2% of schools in Wales for added value at 16, this caps a great year for us

Outstanding performers this year included: Hannah Smith (six A*s, five As) , Tamsin Bold (four A*s, five As,) , Jess Cavendish (four A*, grades, four As ), Chris Bithell (three A*s, seven As ), Matthew Massey (three A*s, five As and three Bs), Amy Aspinall (two A*s, seven As,) ), Jessica Hughes ( two A*s, six As and one B), Oliver Emptage (five As and six Bs), Adam Black ( eight As and two Bs).

We were delighted to be featured recently on both Radio Wales and BBC Wales Television, both of whom visited the school on GCSE Results Day.

A great deal of work has taken place on the school site during the summer break and students will enjoy greatly improved facilities in a number of areas.
